The Lady Mary Inn is the centerpiece of North Berwick, my home town. My husband and I and have often talked about how interesting it would be to see it and get the chance to meet the owners. We had the opportunity to do that the day after Christmas. The house is beautifully preserved and lovingly restored. The guest rooms are elegant and comfortable. The Lady Mary Inn offered an enchanting Tea Party a few weeks ago. My daughters and their children invited me to join them for an overnight stay at the Inn, followed by an elegant tea party the next day. Such fun! The tea party and overnight stay at Lady Mary Inn exceeded all expectations. Our host and co-owner Ryan welcomed us to this beautifully restored historical inn. Bob and I needed a get away after a tough couple of weeks. Since it was our anniversary we felt this was the time. We always use select registry and looked for something away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy area, but close enough if we wanted to go there. The Lady Mary is the perfect place! Beautiful inn, excellent hosts,(Viv and Clark included), we felt right at home from the first moment. Close enough for a leisurely drive along route 9 up through Old Orchard Beach or up to Rochester where we found a great shop with antiques and collectibles. My husband booked the Inn for our 49th Anniversary and it did not disappoint for sure. The detail to the Inn is stunning and breath taking, you don’t see any more. Our first breakfast was greeted by Ryan’s partner and their two beautiful well behaved boxers. I love that the Inn was local to all our favorite places in Maine , Ogunquit, Kennebunkport. “We were barely out of our car and Ryan was at the front porch welcoming us like old friends. He sat with us and gave us a bit of background on the history of the Hurd Mansion/ Lady Mary Inn. The Inn itself is absolutely gorgeous and the King and Queen suites are enormous. “We had booked our room back in April when the Inn was known as Angel of the Berwicks and thought it would be a very nice place but when we checked into the new Lady Mary Inn, we found it to be stunningly gorgeous. We were immediately greeted by Ryan , our host, who gave us a tour and made us feel very much at home, only better! There are so many elegant and lovely touches throughout the inn, including original architectural details, furnishings and artwork that one could spend all day wandering around and checking everything out. The entire inn was polished and gleaming and it was obvious the owners took great pride in their new endeavor. We were also offered a variety of cold drinks, coffee, tea and cookies! Upstairs, our room was air conditioned and beautifully decorated. The bed was most comfortable and the bathroom sparkling clean with lovely plush towels. In the morning, we were served a delightful and delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, baked eggs and croissants. The egg recipe featured heirloom tomatoes and zucchini from the owner's gardens. Delicious! Everything about the Lady Mary Inn was far beyond our expectations and we would not hesitate to stay here again. Thank you, Ryan and Steve for hosting us so expertly. “What a delightful place! I had the good fortune to be there during the open house which gave Ryan (one of the owners) and Keith (the Innkeeper) much additional information to add to their history of the Mary Hurd House. This Victorian house has been preserved and renovated exquisitely and both Ryan and Keith were phenomenal hosts. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable and the downstairs common areas are very inviting and the puzzle room was an added bonus for me. The breakfasts prepared by Ryan are incredible and if you're there long enough and the timing is right, you may be able to see the owner's farm which is not far away and provides a lot of the fruit and vegetables used for breakfast. The Inn is located within easy driving distance to several airports as well as seacoast towns like Ogunquit, Wells and Kennebunkport. Equally important for me was easy access to hiking trails, some of which were less than a mile or so away.
