The Lady Mary Inn’s Masquerade Ball

Saturday
November 1st

6-10 pm

Masquerade Balls were popular in the 18th century. Guests would wear extravagant costumes, often referencing historical royalty, mythological goddesses and various characters of antiquity. Early 18th century party guests often used masks to conceal their real identity. The great fun of this was trying to guess the identities of those you were partying with!

This trend would change towards the end of the century with many Victorians straying away from this sense of disguise in their costume balls. Costumes started reflecting more about the personality of the guest themselves and their character while other guests expressed their creativity by dressing as seasons, fairies, and butterflies.

The Lady Mary Inn welcomes you to celebrate Halloween with our first annual Masquerade Ball. Our guests are encouraged to attend in ornate custumes reflecting their personality. The more outrageous - the better!
